The Dawson County Tigers wrestling team traveled to White County last week where it picked up a 54-18 win before participating in the Burnt Mountain Classic over the weekend.

During the tournament on Jan. 20-21, the Tigers placed fourth overall behind Gilmer, Sonoraville and Blessed Trinity.

Twenty teams participated in the annual event that was held at Pickens High School.

"Our guys are wrestling, maybe the best they have all year right now, but we are working on healing up some nagging injuries," said Coach Arron Haynes. "We should be ready to go come Friday though."

Kelton LeBaron (113 pounds) took third place and Wyatt Smith took fourth (120 pounds).

Levi Baggett (152 pounds) wrestled to a second place spot while Jeremy Whalen (170 pounds) was in sixth.

Jack Cupp (195 pounds) was fourth and Parker Kincaid (220 pounds) took fifth.

Wrestling at 285 pounds, Jake Williams took second.

The team will travel to Fannin County for the area traditional wrestling tournament on Jan. 27-28.

"Our area is brutal so getting out is going to be a battle in itself just to qualify for state sectionals next week," Haynes said.

State sectionals will take place at Morgan County the weekend of Feb. 3 and 4.
