The boys' soccer team at Dawson County High School opened the season with a 1-0 victory at Walnut Grove High School last week.

Alan Sanchez scored the lone goal for the Tigers at the 17:31 mark of the first half on an assist by Timmy Moody.

"Alan Sanchez who scored for us did a great job tonight controlling the middle and controlling the pace of the game. We also made a change putting Cole Dennis as a play partner in the middle with Alan and that is when the game took a turn and we started controlling the game," said Head Coach Jed Lacey.

Goalie Ty Anglin picked up his first shutout of the season.

The Tigers are 1-0 on the season are ranked No. 3 in the latest Class AAA poll.

"It was a good way to start the season off with a win. Walnut Grove gave us a great game," Lacey said. "They (Walnut Grove) showed us what we need to fix and work on so we can be the team I think we can be. I saw some great things out there tonight but we need to get better at finishing. We had so many opportunities to score and could not finish the drill."

The Tigers had 12 shots on goal.

"I'm not happy with our finishing, but what I did like was the way we possessed to get the ball in position to shoot. We need to make some changes in the line up and move a few people around now that I got to see us in a real game," he said.

Lacey was also impressed with the play of Dennis Pyetsukh, Karson Pharris, Nick Murphy, Andrew Goley and Timmy Moody.

The Tigers will play No. 7-ranked in Class A, Athens Academy at home on Friday.

Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m.
