Three compete at state meet

Three Dawson County High School girls' track athletes participated in the state meet at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany May 2 -3.

Representing the local team were Savannah Haberkam, Bailey Cotter and Katelynn Simpson.

Haberkam finished in seventh place in the discus with a toss of 102'1." Winning the event was Harper Seymour of North Hall. Seymour threw the discus 119'9."

Cotter was 12th in the 800-meter preliminaries and didn't make the finals. Cotter completed the event with a time of 2:36.52 in the very grueling event.

Simpson competed in the 100-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles. Despite not making the finals, Simpson ran well with times of 16.92 in the 100 and 49.84 in the 300.

Coach Arron Haynes' team tallied two points.

Winning the state team championship in Class AAA was Woodward Academy with 61 points.

Teams in Region 7-AAA ran well during the weekend. White County came in fifth with 36 points, North Hall-ninth (26 points), Buford-10th (23 points), West Hall-14th (16 points) and Banks County-24th (10 points).

The track season is over for the Lady Tigers.
