The Dawson County High School Swim Team had its last regular season meet Jan. 16 at the Cumming Aquatic Center.

Tenth grader Jessica Applegate qualified for the state meet at Georgia Tech, which was held Friday and Saturday.

She competed in the 200-meter individual medley and the 100-meter backstroke.

As the only swimmer from Dawson County, Applegate represented well in the school's inaugural state meet.

"Jessica has been training year round to accomplish this," swim coach Linda Sperin said.

The team also had a handful of personal best times from Rustin Howell, Clay Boyer, Jeff Drew and Nathan Frazier, who competed in the 200-meter medley and 200-meter freestyle relays.

Drew swam a 24.71 in the 50-meter freestyle, breaking his 25 second mark and placing 11th out of 88 swimmers. He also competed in the 100-meter butterfly for the first time and finished strong.

"Jeff Drew, the only senior, will be greatly missed next year, his willingness, positive attitude and infectious smile made him such a joy to coach," Sperin said.

Boyer swam his fastest time in the 100-yard breaststroke, while Frazier recorded his personal best time in the 100-meter freestyle.

"I couldn't be more proud of my swimmers," Sperin said. "They all have improved so much and I hope that they will continue to swim in the off season and join the swim team at the Dawson County pool this summer."
