Swim season is under way for the Dawson County High School swim team and Coach Linda Sperin is excited about the second year of competition.

"Out of eight swimmers, four of them are new to the team," Sperin said. "Everyone is working hard and enjoying swimming against each other."

The team opened the season on Nov. 16 in a dual meet at Adairsville High School.

Freshman swimmer Matthew Wood made a state cut time in the 100-meter butterfly at 57.9 seconds. He missed the state cut time in the 100-meter backstroke by only .10 of a second.

"They all swam their best and are looking forward to bettering their times at our next meet," Sperin said about the team pulling in a couple of individual first place finishes and a few second place spots.

The team practices in the evenings at the Cumming Aquatic Center and faces its next test when they compete on Dec. 9 in Calhoun.

The schedule currently includes seven meets, but more may be added.

Members of this year's team include: seniors Clay Boyer, Rustin Howell, Keylan Steffins; junior Nathan Frazier; sophomore Garrett Perez; and freshmen Carter Rexroat, Logan Starr and Wood.
