Fundamental camp a success

Squeaking sneakers and bouncing basketballs could be heard throughout Rock Creek Park June 1-5, as it played host to the annual fundamental camp for girls.

Dawson County Middle School coaches Jonathan Tinsley, Nichole Green and Steven Moates conducted the camp.

The coaches stressed the basic fundamentals to around 40 campers, but most of all they wanted all participants to have fun and enjoy the game.

"The girls worked hard all week," Tinsley said. "It may be the best group of girls we have ever had."

Tinsley said he was also proud of how hard the staff worked to make the camp a success.

"I thought our staff worked great at teaching the girls the proper techniques of basketball. It was an awesome week. I'm so proud of how hard the girls worked," he said.

On Friday the staff presented awards to campers that excelled in a certain area of the game.

The awards were split into different age groups.

Madison Anglin and Cydney Cunningham won the Hot Shot Award.

Jenna Lecours and Trinity Bearden won the Free Throws Award.

Marlie Townley and Maggie Dowdy received the One on One Award.

Shyla Sheffield and Cayden Townley received the Best Camper Award.
