Dawson County Parks and Recreation is proud to announce the results of the 2011 North Georgia Youth Football Association Super Bowl.

For the first time ever Dawson County's youth football program was well represented with four teams earning spots in the association's Super Bowl.

Of the four teams that earned spots, three walked away from their games as Super Bowl winners.

5 & 6-year-olds defeat Rabun

Dawson County Park and Recreation's 5 and 6 year old team, coached by Anthony Monkus and staff, met a fierce opponent in the Rabun County Wildcats.

Dawson proved it was too much to handle with its high scoring offense, outscoring Rabun 33-25.

Both teams put up a lot of points, but Dawson came out on top in the end with a touchdown run by Sawyer Bearden late in the fourth quarter.

This year marked the second in a row that the team has won the Super Bowl under Monkus' leadership.

7-year-olds take down Jefferson

The next game of the day pitted the Dawson 7-year-olds, coached by Tom Whalen and staff, against the Jefferson Dragons. Both teams were evenly matched and the game turned out to be a great defensive battle. At halftime the Tigers led 13-6 in what became a true nail biter.

After the half the Tigers began to pull away slowly with their stellar defense and late touchdown by Aiden Kudlas that sealed the victory for the Tigers.

The 7-year-old Tigers ended the game with a final score of 19-6 and became the second Dawson team to walk away with a 2011 Super Bowl victory.

10-year-olds remain undefeated

The final Dawson team to win the championship game was the 10-year-old Tigers' team coached by Danny Pruitt. The game matched Dawson against Rabun in a battle of two undefeated teams. Rabun came into the game as the highly favored team. The Wildcats were defending a 39-0 record over the past three years. Dawson quickly proved that it was no underdog with its vicious defense against a tough Rabun opponent. The Tigers held the Wildcats scoreless and ended the first half up by six, thanks to an early touchdown by Ryan Glass.

The second half proved no different as the Tigers defense stayed in the Wildcat backfield most of the second half. The Tigers scored again late in the fourth quarter on a short run by Luke Chism to seal the team's 13-0 victory over the Wildcats and claim a third Dawson County Super Bowl win.

8-year-olds fall to Wildcats

The other team from Dawson County to make it to the championship game was the 8-year-old team. The team was coached by Chad Cofield. The Tigers put up a great fight against a very tough Rabun Wildcats team. Rabun's tough defense proved too much for the Tigers this year and resulted in 20-6 loss for the Tigers team. However, the team will be a force going into the 9-year-old division next year, according to officials.

Dawson County Athletic Coordinator Zak Moore said: "We had a record number of teams representing Dawson County this year and a record number of Super Bowl victories. We are proud of our teams and the way they represented us both on and off the field. It was an exciting day of football for Dawson County."
