County to hold all-star baseball, softball

The Dawson County Parks and Recreation department will host two all-star tournaments this weekend.

  

The 8-year old baseball tournament will take place at Rock Creek Park beginning Friday, June 26.

  

The 12-year old softball tournament will be held at Veterans Memorial Park, also beginning Friday.

  

The 8-year-olds will play against Barrow County in the first round of play at 6:30 p.m., Friday on Field 9. There will be five teams in the event, which will last until next Tuesday, June 29.

  

The tournament is comprised of Hall County, Fannin County, Jackson County, Barrow County and the host team, Dawson County.

  

Members of this year’s 8-year-old team that will play in the District 6 Dizzy Dean event are: Jason Browning, Justin Browning, Justin Butler, Luke Chism, Troy Glaze, Chaz Jennings, Ryan Jones, Devin Joy, Cole Loy, Trevor Moore, Trey Pruitt, Tyler Rice and Kenneth Stewart. Danny Pruitt and Jason Glaze coach the team.

  

The 12-year softball District 6 Fast Pitch tournament will see the Dawson County team receive a first round bye. The team will play the winner of Banks County and Hall County. They will play their first game at 10 a.m. Saturday morning, on Field 1.

  

There are seven teams entered in the 12-year-old division. The field will consist of Dawson, Banks County, Hall County, Lumpkin County, Jackson County, Fannin County and Commerce.

  

The championship game of the tournament will be played on Tuesday, June 29 at 8:30 p.m.

  

Coaching this year’s 12-year old team is Andrew Lovingood and Richard Daniel. This year’s roster includes: Kaila Burt, Kaitlyn Cook, Emma Daniel, CJ Dixon, Jodie Downs, Jordan Henderson, Samantha Keeney, Jessica Lovingood, Madeline Moore, Lindsey Robinson, Marie Wasinger and Brooke Wende.

  

Other All-Star teams will also be playing this weekend. The 9-year-old boys baseball team will travel to Fannin County, 7-8-year-old softball is in Jackson County along with the 13-14-year-olds and the 9-10 year old team will travel to Fannin County to play.
