Former Tiger baseball player Kasey Wilson held a summer baseball camp this past Monday and Tuesday at Veterans Memorial Park.

After high school, Wilson went on to play college baseball at Southern Tech and Middle Georgia College, where he was a catcher.

Wilson was then drafted into the pros and played several places, including San Angelo, Macon, Jackson and Windy City.

Despite the hot and humid weather, 10 campers participated in the event.

“We thought we would have more kids, but with all stars and the economy it didn’t turn out that way,” commented Wilson.

On Monday, the campers learned the fundamentals of running, throwing, batting, pitching, catching, fielding and base running.

Tuesday the campers reviewed all their fundamentals from Monday and played in some simulated games.

Wilson said: “These kids learn the fine points of the game very well. They worked very hard these last two days.”

Assisting Wilson was former Major League pitcher Terrell Wade. Wade has formerly played for the Atlanta Braves, Tampa Bay Devil Rays and New York Yankees.

Wade was part of the Braves’ team that captured the World Series in 1995. He also won another World Series with the Yankees in 1996. That year he recorded a 5-0 record with a 2.97 ERA.
