Chase Elliott finished Sunday’s Big Machine Hand Sanitizer 400 in 11th place, sending him into second place of the overall NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

During the race, Elliott received 16 extra points from finishing stage 1 in fourth place and Stage 2 in second. Elliott led for 26 laps of the race, even passing William Byron, who would eventually take the lead back and the stage 2 victory.

After the race, Elliott took the lead for the most acquired stage points so far this season, passing Ryan Blaney with 166 on the season.

The ninth and final caution flag came out with only three laps left in the race. Elliott and his team, led by Crew Chief Alan Gustafson, decided to go to pit row and came back into the race in 14th. Elliott climbed three more positions before he passed the checkered flag.

The next Nascar Sprint Cup Series race will be the Quaker State 400 on Sunday, July 12 at Kentucky Speedway. The race begins at 2:30 p.m.
