After stage 2 of the Bass Pro Shops Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway, Chase Elliott had secured enough points to advance onto the second round of the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs.
Elliott finished the race in seventh place and competed well throughout the entire race.
Starting the race in fifth place, Elliott quickly passed Martin Truex Jr. to move up into fourth but would fall all the way to seventh place coming back to the track from the competition caution.
Moving quickly, Elliott was back in fourth place in the next 15 laps and continued to pass cars through lap 105, when leader Brad Keselowski was caught behind a slower car whom he had lapped already, allowing Elliott to pass him for the lead.
Elliott would stay in the lead until the end of the stage, winning stage 1. Gaining the extra playoff points brought Elliott within one playoff point of Joey Logano for fourth in playoff points.
Kyle Busch would pass Elliott on pit road before starting stage 2 and would ride in second until eventual race winner Kevin Harvick passed him on lap 217. After another caution flag on lap 234, Elliott would lose third place for a moment only to immediately regain the position.
Elliott would end-stage 2 in third place. Even though this ended his streak of three stage wins in a row at Bristol Motor Speedway, the 18 stage points were enough to secure a spot through the next three races in the Round of 12.
Logano would take third place on pit road from Elliott going into the final 250 laps of the race, but Elliott would regain it on lap 279. He would stay in third until lap 405, when Elliott went to pit road.
However, an unlucky caution right as Elliott went to pit road out the Dawsonville driver at the back of the pack. Elliott continued to stay competitive throughout the rest of the race, finishing in seventh.
The NASCAR Round of 12 will be run at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Talladega Motor Speedway and the Charlotte ROVAL road course. Elliott won the last race run at the road course in Charlotte.
The South Point 400 will start the Round of 12 next Sunday, Sept. 27 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The race will begin at 7 p.m.
