The Dawson County Middle School Tigers traveled to Ellijay Oct. 6 for a football game with the Gilmer County Middle School Bobcats.

The Tigers came away with a 27-12 victory that ended the team’s season with a 3-4 record and a two-game winning streak.

Jake Phillips got the Tigers on the board early with a 5-yard touchdown run that gave Dawson a quick 6-0 lead.

Also adding touchdown runs for Dawson were Richard Palmer, 42-yards, Corey Voyles, 6-yards, and Matt Hamil with a 33-yard run.

“The offense moved the ball really well,” said Head Coach Thomy Edwards. “The line blocked great. I thought all the backs ran hard, especially Jake Leete. Although he didn’t score a touchdown, he picked up several very important first downs for us.”

Edwards added: “I thought the defense played great. They really have for the last two games. Gilmer just couldn’t move the ball on our first defense. The only reason Gilmer scored was the fact we were trying to get some of our younger players playing time.”

Edwards said he was pleased with this year’s team.

“We finished with three wins and four losses. In two of those games we had control of the game but just didn’t come out on top. I am looking forward to seeing these kids play at the high school level,” he said.
