The Dawson County Middle School seventh-grade basketball teams played Fannin County Middle School last week.

The girls' team, under head coach Nichole Green, traveled to Blue Ridge Nov. 12 to face the Lady Rebels.

Despite a great effort, the Lady Tigers dropped a 25-23 decision in overtime.

"The girls were nervous with it being their first middle-school game," Green said. "We played hard and the girls adjusted well, but we made way too many turnovers."

Green's team led after one quarter by a score of 6-4, but they scored just three points in the second quarter to trail 13-9 at halftime.

Both teams scored only four points in the third quarter with Dawson trailing 17-13.

The Lady Tigers tied the score in the fourth quarter and sent the game into overtime. Fannin won the game by connecting on two free throws in the overtime period.

Kaylee Sticker led the scoring for Dawsonville with 12 points. Other Lady Tigers scoring were: Hannah Tinsley-six points; Lindsey LeBaron-three points and Frankie Muldoon-two points.

The boys' team fell by a 55-12 score.

Scoring for head coach Steven Moates' team were: Will Mulberry with seven points and Luke Smith with five points.

Both teams will be back in action after Thanksgiving break.

The boys will play host to Riverview Middle on Dec. 6, while the girls' team will travel across the county to play Riverview on the same date.

Tip-off for the games will be at 4 p.m.
