The Riverview Middle School girls' soccer team was recently named Mountain League Champions. Head Coach John Lundy’s squad defeated Dawson County Middle School 2-0 to take the championship trophy.

Dawson County Middle School was the defending champions.

“Our girls started slow, probably because of nerves, but played like champs the second half,” said Lundy.

It was a scoreless game at halftime, but the Lady Eagles swarmed the net during the second half.

Goals from Taylor Bennett and Mckay Shively were all Riverview needed to get the victory.

Lady Eagle goalie Suzanne Eckert played an outstanding game with several big saves.

“Suzanne wasn’t tested a whole lot during the season, but played outstanding today with some great saves,” Lundy said.

“Summer [Sanders] hustled every second of the game and was a major factor in the win.

“I have never worked with a group of kids that played better as a team. Each player on the team can take great satisfaction that their determination and will to win is what contributed to this great season,” added Lundy.

Members of this year’s team included: Bennett, Shively, Mikayla Perez, Anna Hawkins,  Rachel Starling, Sanders, Suzanne Eckert, Riley Cox, Daisy Sarmiento, Morgan Callas, Kamilla Baron, Sam Keeney, Abigail Jesperson, Rosalee Gaddis and Mikenzie Belben.
