Anytime Riverview and Dawson County middle schools match up in any sporting event, spectators know that it will be a hard fought battle.

Such was the case Feb. 23 when the girls soccer teams from both schools met at Dawson County Middle for the annual showdown.

Fans weren't to be disappointed, as the Lady Eagles and Lady Tigers fought their way to a 2-2 tie.

Lindsey Knotts scored both goals for the Lady Tigers.

Scoring for Riverview were seventh-graders, Kat Ryerse and McKenzie Callas.

"The defense of Brittany Griggs, Ansley Costley, Nicole Chumbley and Haley Greenway did a fantastic job," said Lady Tigers Head Coach Donna Melton. "Kaelynne Bronson, as goalkeeper, had some terrific saves. I thought we pulled together for a great passing game."

Riverview Head Coach John Lundy said: "The game was very exciting, but showed us that we have a lot to work on and that Dawson is a very good team and the team to best this year.

"McKenzie Callas and Isabel Queen were standouts in the game and did an exceptional job both offensively and defensively. We were lucky to come out of there with a tie and hope to have a better crack at them next time," he added.

This week the Lady Eagles travel to Pickens County Middle on Friday, while the Lady Tigers will play at home against Fannin County Middle on Friday. Both games are set to begin at 4:15 p.m.
