The Dawson County Middle School boys' soccer team lost its first game of the season, 2-0, at Clear Creek Middle in Ellijay on Feb. 10.

The Tigers played well despite the loss and the weather, according to Coach Patrick Muenchen.

The temperature was 28 degrees at kickoff with 20 mile per hour winds.

"It was cold, but we played well for our first match and in those conditions," Muenchen said.

The coach praised the play of goalie Beck Martin.

Martin had several saves in the game.

Captains Daniel Leonard and Nick Bernon also played well, he said.

"I thought Shawn Thomas gave us some strong defense in the second half, as well as Chris Garrett," said Muenchen.

The Tigers appeared to score about 10 minutes into the second half on an indirect kick by Leonard. The referee called the goal back, leaving Dawson County scoreless.

Weather played havoc with the Tiger schedule last week.

Muenchen's team is expected to play at Riverview on Friday.

Kickoff is set for 4:15 p.m.
