Middle school seeks softball players

The Dawson County middle school softball team recently announced that tryouts will be held July 29 and 30 at the Riverview Middle School softball field.

Tryouts will be held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

The tryouts are open to any up and coming seventh or eighth grade girl from either Dawson County or Riverview middle schools.

Each participant will be required to have with them a physical (or have one already on file at one of the middle schools) and a parent permission form.

According to the Georgia high school association, GHSA, each student must have a certificate of an annual physical examination of file at the school prior to participate in any athletic try-out, practices or games that indicate the students are physically approved for participation

Physical examinations are good for 12 months from the date of the exam.

The physical exam must be conducted by a licensed medical physician, doctor of Osteopathic medicine, nurse practitioner or a physician's assistant.

The exam must be signed by an M.D., D.O., or by a physician's assistant, or an advance practice nurse who has been delegated that task by an M.D., or D.O.

The GHSA requires that member schools use the latest edition of the pre-participation physical evaluation form approved by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Physical forms can be found at the either school and on the GHSA website.
