Middle school Lady Tigers win thriller

The Dawson County Middle School seventh grade Lady Tigers won their first game in a thrilling fashion.

  

The Lady Tigers defeated Union County in Blairsville by a score of 18-16 in overtime.

  

“It was a great game,” said head coach Tina Brown. “We matched up very well. The entire game was close.”

  

The Lady Tigers were behind by three points with only 30 seconds remaining.

  

Madison Shope nailed a 3-pointer for Dawson to tie the score and send the game into overtime.

  

In overtime, and tied 16-16, Hannah Moye hit a 2-pointer with seven seconds to go. It was enough to clinch the victory.

  

Only three players scored for the Lady Tigers. Moye led all scorers with 11 points. Shope contributed with 5 points and Brooke Duffy added 2 points.

  

Coach Brown commented about the game, “The girls played hard. They were nervous with it being their first middle school game. They didn’t know what to expect. I was very proud of them for keeping their composure in a pressure situation.”
