The Riverview Middle School girls' soccer team opened the season with a 4-0 shutout over Pickens Middle at home on Friday.

"After a slow start, the girls started to really mesh and work together well," said head coach John Lundy.

Kathryn Ryerse scored two goals in the win. Also scoring were Zoe Grindstaff and Mackenzie Callas.

"Fullbacks Grace Sheer, Brittany Sayler and Ava Walker contributed a lot to secure the shutout," said Lundy. "Ava is just amazing to watch. She is one of the best defensive players I have had on a team and that is saying a lot. This year is going to be interesting due to only having four girls returning, but I look forward to seeing them grow together."

Up next for the Lady Eagles will be cross-county rivals Dawson Middle at 4:15 p.m. Friday at home.
