The Riverview Middle School Lady Eagles softball team recently competed in the Mountain League Softball Tournament in Jasper.
Head Coach Jeff Compton’s team captured a third place finish behind Clear Creek Middle School, champion, and Jasper Middle School, second place.
The Lady Eagles finished the season with a 7-5 overall record.
In the first game, of tournament play, Riverview rallied in extra innings to defeat Pickens County Middle School, 5-4.
The Lady Eagles took the lead in the top of the seventh inning, 3-2, but Pickens scored in the bottom of the inning to send the game into extra innings.
The game ended with a double play when Riverview pitcher Joy Lewis snatched a line drive and threw the ball to Samantha Keeney at first base and caught the Lady Dragons runner off the bag.
Riverview then faced eventual champion Clear Creek.
Despite a great effort the Lady Eagles came up just short.
Saturday the team played Union County. The Lady Eagles scored early and often to come away with a 7-1 win.
Kaylee Kelley had a key hit. Kelley drove a pitch to the outfield wall that knocked in three runs.
“I cannot say enough about how proud I am of every player on this team,” Compton said.
