The Riverview Middle School Lady Eagles softball team recently competed in the Mountain League Softball Tournament in Jasper.

Head Coach Jeff Compton’s team captured a third place finish behind Clear Creek Middle School, champion, and Jasper Middle School, second place.

The Lady Eagles finished the season with a 7-5 overall record.

In the first game, of tournament play, Riverview rallied in extra innings to defeat Pickens County Middle School, 5-4.

The Lady Eagles took the lead in the top of the seventh inning, 3-2, but Pickens scored in the bottom of the inning to send the game into extra innings.

The game ended with a double play when Riverview pitcher Joy Lewis snatched a line drive and threw the ball to Samantha Keeney at first base and caught the Lady Dragons runner off the bag.

Riverview then faced eventual champion Clear Creek.

Despite a great effort the Lady Eagles came up just short.

Saturday the team played Union County. The Lady Eagles scored early and often to come away with a 7-1 win.

Kaylee Kelley had a key hit. Kelley drove a pitch to the outfield wall that knocked in three runs.

“I cannot say enough about how proud I am of every player on this team,” Compton said.

Members of this year’s team were: Tabitha Morrison, Joy Lewis, Samantha Keeney, Brandy Nesmith, Ashley Parker, Heather Brady, Hannah McConnell, Brooke Wendy, Emily Poss, Katelyn Simpson, Emma Daniels, MaKaylee Kelley and Claudia Santillion, manager.
