Lady Eagles drop two

The Riverview Middle School seventh grade girls basketball team dropped two games last week to Jasper Middle, 24-10, on Nov. 21, and Clear Creek, 32-18, on Nov. 22.

In the game against Jasper, Maggie Schandera and Anna Lowe each had three points in the contest. Also scoring were Sydney Estes and Ruthie Pittman each with two points.

"The girls played hard on defense in the first half. We made some good shots, but they just wouldn't fall," said head coach Natosha Beary. "In the second half the girls struggled to make good passes and couldn't capitalize on opportunities. For this to be a young team, they are showing a lot of improvements and I'm proud of them for that."

On Friday, the team traveled to Ellijay to face Clear Creek.

Once again, the team played hard but just couldn't score enough offensively to keep them in the game.

Lowe had a big game. She scored 12 of the Lady Eagles' 18 total points.

The only other Riverview player to score was Schandera with six points.

"The girls started strong and kept Clear Creek to a 6-6 tie at the end of the first quarter. Clear Creek went on a run in the second quarter and caused us to make several turnovers.

"We struggled to get back in the game, but finished out strong. The girls are learning and growing each game and we can see the changes in each player," Beary said.

Up next, the team will host Dawson County Middle at 4 p.m. Dec. 6.
