The Dawson County Middle School softball team finished the season with a second place finish in the North Georgia Mountain League tournament last week at Roper Park in Jasper.

Head Coach Jeff Compton's team came into the tournament with a No. 2 seed and a 5-3 league record.

Dawson County opened play against No. 3 seed Jasper Middle School. Compton's team came away with a close 3-2 win that put the team in the championship game against Clear Creek Middle.

Dawson held a close 1-0 lead until the fifth inning when Hannah Tinsley stepped to the plate and singled, driving in two runs and giving Dawson County a 3-0 advantage going into the final inning.

Jasper scored two runs in the sixth inning, but it wasn't enough as Dawson County came away with the win.

Dawson County came up short in the championship game, 9-0, against a talented Clear Creek team.

"I am very proud of all the hard work and effort put in by all players, which contributed to the success of the softball season," Compton said.

The coach said he had seen a lot of growth among this year's team.

"This has been a great season. I believe the success of a softball season is measured by the growth of each player on the team. I cannot say enough about how much each player contributed to the success of the whole team. I will miss this group of players, and for those players going to the high school next year, I wish them all the best," he added.

Members of this year's team were: Madison Worley, Katie Brady, Gabby Buchan, Maggie Schandera, Ashton Bryant, Caroline Collett, Sydney Estes, Brandi Williams, Mary Beth Farris, Lacy Mills, Ashton Bruce, Hannah Tinsley and Karly Thurmond. This year's team manager was Isabel Tinsley.
