The Dawson County Middle School eighth grade girls basketball team remains undefeated following a huge 49-8 win at Fannin County last week.

Following the Dec. 1 game, the Lady Tigers are 3-0 on the season.

Fannin played the Lady Tigers tough in the first quarter, trailing only 9-6. The tight score seemed to wake up Dawson County as Fannin managed only two points the rest of the game.

The Lady Rebels didn't score a point in the second or fourth quarter.

"We played terrible in the first quarter," said head coach Tina Brown. "Our girls couldn't buy a basket, couldn't throw the ball into the ocean or whatever you say. We finally found our rhythm after that quarter and played well the rest of the way."

Eight different Lady Tigers scored with Karlie Bearden leading the way with 9 points.

Lady Tigers scorers, following Bearden were: Ansley Costley - 8 points; Brittany Griggs - 8 points; Haley Burgess - 8 points; Summer Vaughan - 6 points; Peytan Porter - 5 points; Taylor Hammond - 3 points and Haelye Lewis - 2 points.

The Lady Tigers will play at 5:15 p.m. Thursday at home against a good Clear Creek Middle School team from Gilmer County.
