Eighth-graders hold on for win

Leading Lady Eagle scorer Samantha Keeney’s six points helped Riverview Middle School’s eighth grade girls’ basketball team win its opening game of the regular season 21-13 over visiting Lumpkin County, Nov. 13.

 

Riverview jumped out to a 7-2 opening quarter lead. The Lady Eagles extended its lead to 13-3 at halftime.

 

The Lady Eagles managed only two and six points respectively in the final two quarters, but were still able to manage an eight point win.

 

Fouls and free throws highlighted the contest. Riverview was able to connect on 5-for-12 free throws to help extend its advantage.

 

“We still have a lot of things to iron out,” said Head Coach Elizabeth Roper. “I was proud of our overall effort today.”

 

Scoring for the Lady Eagles were:  Keeney, six points; McKay Shively, Taylor Bennett and Rosie Gaddis, each had four points. Brooke Wendy added three points for Riverview.

 

The Lady Eagles will be back in action on Nov. 30 at Clear Creek.
