Eighth grade Tigers win

The Dawson County Middle School eighth grade boy’s basketball team came away with a, 36-30, overtime win over Clear Creek Middle School Jan. 12.

  

The Tigers handed Clear Creek its first loss of the season.

  

“We played our best game,” Head Coach Jonathan Tinsley said. “It was a big win for our kids.”

  

Tied at halftime, 11-11, both teams exploded on offense in the third quarter. Each team traded baskets, with the Tigers holding on to a slim one-point lead, 26-25.

  

Both defenses turned it up a notch in the final period. Clear Creek outscored Dawson 5-4 to take the game into overtime.

  

Tinsley’s team held Clear Creek scoreless in the overtime period.

  

The Tigers managed six points to come away with the 36-30 win.

  

Will Anglin and Gunnar Armstrong had 11 and 10 points respectively to lead the Tigers in scoring. Matthew Hammond and Camron Chester each had 4 points in the win. Mitchell Putnam, 3 points, and Hunter Wehunt, 2 points, each contributed offensively.

  

The Tigers will have three straight home games this week. Thursday, Dawson will play host to Pickens.

  

Friday, Jasper will visit Dawsonville and Monday the team will have a rematch with Jasper.

  

All games will begin around 5:15 p.m.
