The Dawson County Middle School eighth grade Lady Tigers’ basketball team finished the regular season with a perfect 14-0 record.

The Lady Tigers will go into the Mountain League Tournament this weekend as the No. 1-seed.

The group will be seeking its second straight Mountain League title. Last year, the same group of girls won the first place trophy as seventh graders at Riverview Middle School

Head Coach Nichole Gilleland and her team finished the regular season with two big wins over Pickens County Middle School and Jasper Middle School.

In the game against Pickens, Kenna Seitz scored a game high 22 points to lead the Lady Tigers to a 41-34 win.

“Kenna was able to drive and get in the lane and create for herself,” Gilleland said. “It was also good to get Carly Gilreath back full speed. She had her appendix out right after Christmas and it’s taken her a little while to be able to go full speed.”

“We had an average game against Pickens. Pickens played a very good game and shot the ball very well,” Gilleland added.

Also scoring for the Lady Tigers against Pickens County Middle School were: Allie Costley-6; Gracie Hovan-5; Hannah Porter-4; Carly Gilreath-2 and Whitney Glover-2.

The Lady Tigers then defeated a very talented Jasper Middle School team 38-25.

Dawson scored 17 points in the fourth quarter to pull away with the victory.

Costley led all Lady Tigers scorers with 12 points.

Seitz, Porter and Gilreath contributed 6 points each. Kacie Bearden added 5 points, while Gracie Hovan scored 4 points in the win.

“It was a long game. At the end of the first half we were only up 12-10. We had a hard time getting our half court game going and just kind of fell into their pace of game. The third quarter was probably one of the best quarters of basketball I’ve seen these girls play,” Gilleland said about her team’s efforts against a very good Jasper team.

Game time for the tournament was not available as of press time.
