The eighth grade Riverview Middle School boys’ basketball team won an exciting opening season game against Lumpkin County last Saturday, 38-34, in Dawsonville.

Riverview had to fight back from a 21-13 halftime deficit to get the victory.

The Eagles trailed 28-25 entering the fourth quarter. An offensive explosion in the final period allowed Riverview to come from behind.

The Eagle’s offense outscored Lumpkin 13-6 to pull out the win.

“It was a very exciting game,” said Head Coach Mark Thomason.

“We played terrible in the first half. A lot of turnovers and foul trouble really hurt us. In the second half we hit some big shots and took the lead late in the fourth and came away with our first win.”

Brandon Abbott led all Eagle scorers with 14 points and pulled down nine rebounds.

Levi Whitmire also had a good game offensively. He chipped in eight points.

The Eagles are currently 1-0 on the season. Riverview will not play again until Dec. 3 when the team will host White County Middle School.
