Coach Mark Thomason's Riverview Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team defeated Jasper Middle School, 49-28, in Jasper Dec. 1.

With the win Riverview is currently 2-2 on the season.

"If we can win just one more game it will be an improvement over last season," Thomason said.

Both teams got off to a slow start with Riverview only holding a 3-2 first quarter lead. The Eagles warmed up in the second quarter and outscored Jasper 9-3 to take a 15-7 advantage at half.

Thomason's team put the game away with a 14-point third quarter to take a commanding 29-14 lead.

Carlos Keller led Riverview in scoring with 15 points. Keller was followed by teammates Chase Walls with nine points and Chaz Jennings with seven points.

"We were in foul trouble early and the game started out a little ugly, being after the Thanksgiving break, but after our guys settled down and got into the flow of the game we really pulled away in the second half," Thomason said.

The Eagles will play again Saturday at Lumpkin County Middle School.
