Eagles eighth grade boys win opener, lose to Union County

Coach Mark Thomason and his eighth grade Riverview Middle School Eagle basketball team escaped with a 36-33 win over Pickens County last Tuesday, Nov. 18. It was the opening game for the Eagles.

  

The Eagles held a slim lead at halftime, 17-14.

  

Riverview then went on a 10-0 run to start the second half, making the score 27-14.

  

Fortunately, the Eagles were able to hang on at the end for the win.

  

Bruce Clark led all Eagle scorers with 11 points.

  

Tyler Dominy also had a very good game with eight points and six blocked shots.

  

Eagle Zach Martin contributed six points and led the team in rebounds with nine.

  

“Overall (the game was) a good opening win, but we have to get better shooting the ball and playing defense,” remarked Thomason.

  

The Eagles played Union County on Friday and were unable to hang on.

 

Tyler Dominy had a great game for the Riverview Middle School eighth grade basketball team in a close 46-45 loss to Union County last Friday, Nov. 21.

  

Dominy had 16 points and four blocked shots to lead all scorers in the heart breaking defeat.

  

“We had a couple of chances at it under a minute, but couldn’t get anything to go in,” commented  Thomason.

  

Josh Scaife also had a big night offensively with 11 points.

  

Zach Martin chipped in with eight points for the Eagles.
