The Riverview Middle School eighth grade boys’ basketball team defeated rival Dawson County Middle School by a 30-10 score on Dec. 10.

Cullen MacDonald led all Eagle scorers with 12 points for Head Coach Stephen Gerrells’ team.

Brandon Abbot also added 10 points for the winning Riverview team.

“It was a good win for us,” Gerrells said. “Being a rival game our team was very anxious. I thought we played very, very good defensively. We also rebounded the ball very well and limited Dawson’s second chance opportunities.”

The Tigers only managed three field goals the entire game against Riverview.

Dawson started the game trying to slow the tempo down.

“We had to make some adjustments on defense and force the tempo a little bit. Our guys did an excellent job making those adjustments,” Gerrells said.

Riverview’s defense was tough in the second half and limited Dawson to only four points.

“All in all, I was very proud of how we played. We’ve got some things to work on, but I like the progress we are making,” Gerrells said.

Riverview also got scoring from Austin Buice, four points, Austin Martin, three points and Hunter Glover tallied a single point in the win.

The Eagles will make up a game against Clear Creek Middle School that was cancelled due to weather, at a date to be determined in January.

Riverview will play its next game on Jan. 7 at home against Pickens County Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
