The Dawson County Middle School girls' soccer team won its first match of the season last week.

The team defeated Fannin County, 8-1, Friday afternoon.

"Our girls looked awesome," said head coach Jessi Crane. "The defense kept the ball out of the goalie box and worked well together. Overall they did a great job and worked as a team. I think they are going to do great things this season."

Marley Hamby had an outstanding game according to Crane.

"Marley kept the ball on the offensive side, feeding it into forward, Brooke Cagle, Sydney Morgan and center midfielder Lydia Blythe."

Dawson County will travel to play cross county rival, Riverview Middle School, on Friday.

The girls game will begin at 4:15 p.m. and will be followed by the boys game.
