This is the second in a series of biographies about head coaches at Dawson County schools.

Karen Spencer will begin her second year as head softball coach at Dawson County Middle School.

Last year, her Lady Tigers captured the Mountain League Championship with a perfect 12-0 record.

This year, Spencer will have a totally new team. Dawson graduated 10 eighth graders and the two seventh graders on last year’s team aren’t expected to try out this season.

“We will try and stress the fundamentals this season,” said Spencer. “We are just going to have to try and see what we’ve got.”

Spencer graduated from Hope Christian Academy in Winder.

While there she played volleyball, softball and basketball.

She received her undergraduate degree in 2007 from North Georgia College and State University in middle grades education.

Spencer was an assistant at Riverview Middle School for one year under current head coach Jeff Compton.

“I have played softball myself for 18 years. I hope to continue the winning ways that we established last year,” said Spencer.
