This is the third in a series of biographies about head coaches at Dawson County schools.

Jeff Compton will begin his fifth year as head softball coach at Riverview Middle School.

He has an impressive record while at the school with 30 wins and 10 losses, five of those losses coming last year.

“It has been a pleasure working with students on the field, as well as the classroom,” said Compton.

Compton graduated from North Georgia College and State University in 2004.

He began coaching as an assistant softball coach at Dawson County Middle School the same year.

In 2005, he became the head coach of the softball team there and transferred to Riverview Middle School when it opened.

After the split of schools last season, his team still posted a 5-5 record.

“It gave all our girls a chance to play,” commented the coach.

Compton and his team will begin play this Friday, Aug. 14 with a game at Jasper Middle School. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

“The team has been practicing and we are very much looking forward to our game on Friday. The girls and I are anxious to get on the field,” Compton said.
