This is the second in a series of biographies about head coaches at Dawson County schools.

Mark Thomason will begin his second year as head football coach at Riverview Middle School.

The Eagles finished last season with a 6-1 record and a Mountain League Championship.

Thomason is a 26-year-old graduate of North Georgia College and State University.

The upcoming season marks Thomason’s seventh year in coaching. He began his coaching career at the ripe age of 19 at White County Middle School in Cleveland, serving as a community coach.

He was at White County for two years and coached both the offensive and defensive lines.

He coached at Dawson County High School for one year as a varsity assistant to Head Coach Jeff Lee. At Dawson County High School he coached the defensive linemen.

Thomason then moved to East Hall High School, where he coached linebackers for two years.

He is married to Karla Reece Thomason of Dawsonville.

When asked about his expectations for this year’s team, Thomason replied: “Just like every team at the beginning of the year, our goal is to win another championship. We are not as polished of a team as we were last year, but we have good speed and size. We think that we will match up with other teams from our region very well. We have three solid running backs Scott Zadernak, Gabe Copper and Drew Bishop. Our offensive line is led by returning starter Matthew Reeves. Jonah Martin is showing a good deal of promise at quarterback. I like our chances, but anything can happen.”
