The Dawson County Lady Tigers picked up two region wins last week against rival Lumpkin County at home and on the road against Fannin County.
The Lady Tigers lost to Jefferson on the road on Dec. 17.
"Any win is a good win," said Head Coach Steve Sweat. "These two were really good because we needed some wins and they were region wins."
During the Dec. 13 home game, the Lady Tigers won convincingly by a score of 55-27.
The young team went down early in the game off a Lumpkin steal and score and two 3-pointers, but quickly battled back.
Calli Watson sunk a 3-pointer and Anna Lowe got a steal before Abi Chatham knocked down a three of her own to tie the game at 8.
Cadey Ayers had a solid night for the Lady Tigers. She scored 12 points on the evening with the first basket underneath on a Kaylee Sticker assist.
Sticker and Chatham would go to her again in the third with success down low.
The Lady Indians called a timeout with 6:09 in the second quarter and the Lady Tigers up 12-11.
Dawson applied pressure and was able to force some turnovers before going into halftime with a 21-16 lead.
Going into the second half, Dawson worked effectively underneath with Chatham connecting on a long pass to Sticker for the score.
Chatham hit a 3-pointer on the next possession on her way to 13 points for the night.
Sticker drew the foul with 1:21 in the third quarter and put in both free throws. Sticker would end with 12 points.
Dawson's lead was 36-17 after a third quarter where the team outscored the Lady Indians 15-1.
With three minutes to play, Dawson had doubled up Lumpkin at 48-24.
Lowe added 6 points.
"We have been up and down as far as how well we play," Sweat said. "I feel like we should have improved more than we have, but we will keep working to get better. We need to be more consistent and believe in ourselves."
On Dec. 16, the Lady Tigers traveled to Fannin County where they picked up the second region win by a score of 56-48.
The team was down by seven points heading into half, but fought back in the second and outscored the Lady Rebels 39-24 behind Sticker who put in 22 with 13 of 16 from the free throw line.
Lowe had 9 points and Chatham had 6.
"We were able to pick up a come-from-behind win on the road at Fannin. That was definitely a step in the right direction," Sweat said.
Emma Brown sustained a concussion on a hard foul at Fannin and was unable to play at Jefferson.
On Dec. 17 the team faced Jefferson on the road where they dropped a tough one losing 65-45.
Chatham led the scoring with 14 points coming off of four 3-pointers. Sticker added 13 and Kati Brady and Lowe each contributed 6 points.
The team moves to 3-8 overall and 2-1 in region play. The Lady Tigers played Habersham Central on Dec. 19 but results were not available as of press time.
Dawson will play next week in the Commerce Christmas Classic in Commerce. They are set to take on Stephens County at 10 a.m. on Dec. 27.
