Hunting: Important dates for the 2020-21 hunting season in Georgia

With fall quickly approaching, season dates for hunting different types of game are coming up as well. Here are the important dates every hunter should know according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Resources Division


Deer 

Archery season for deer starts on Sept. 12 and runs through Jan. 10. Primitive weapon hunting starts on Oct. 10 and runs through Jan. 10, and firearms hunting starts on Oct. 17 and runs through Jan. 10. 

The statewide limit for deer hunting is 12 total deer per season. No more than 10 deer can be without antlers, and no more than 2 deer can have antlers. One of these antlered deer has to have at least 4 points of one inch or more in length on one side of the antlers. 


Bear 

Archery season for bear hunting starts on Sept. 12 and runs through Jan. 10. Primitive weapon hunting runs from Oct. 10 to Jan. 10, and firearms hunting runs from Oct. 17 to Jan. 10. The limit for bear is 2 per season. 


Dove

Dove season began on Sept. 5 and runs through Sept. 30. It will then run from Nov. 21 to Nov. 29 and Dec. 8 to Jan. 31. The limit for dove hunting is 15 per day and 45 in possession. 


Fox and Bobcat

Fox and bobcat hunting season will run from Dec. 1 through Feb. 28. There is no limit for fox and bobcat hunting. 


Grouse

Grouse hunting season will be from Oct. 15 to Feb. 28. The limit for grouse is 3 per day. 


Opossum

Opossum hunting season will run from Oct. 15 to Feb. 28. There is no limit for opossum. 


Quail

Quail hunting will be from Nov. 14 to Feb. 28. The limit for quail is 12 per day. 


Rabbit

Rabbit season will be from Nov. 14 to Feb. 28. The limit for rabbit hunting is 12 per day. 


Raccoon

Raccoon hunting season will be from Oct. 15 to Feb. 28. The limit for raccoon hunting is 3 per day.


Snipe

Snipe season will be from Nov. 15 to Feb. 28. The limit for snipe hunting is 8 per day and 24 in possession. 


Squirrel

Squirrel hunting season began on Aug. 15 and will run through Feb. 28. The limit for squirrel is 12 per day. 


Woodcock

Woodcock season will be from Dec. 5 to Jan. 18. The limit for woodcock hunting is 3 per day and 9 in possession. 


Turkey

While turkey season for 2020 is already over, the next turkey hunting season will be from March 20 to May 15, 2021. The limit for turkey is 3 per season.
