Dawson County High School graduate Kasay Holbrook was named the Presbyterian College Student-Athlete of the week on Sept. 23. Holbrook is a freshman on the women’s golf team for the Division I Blue Hose team.
Holbrook led the Blue Hose team to its first ever tournament title last week at Pfieffer’s Lady Falcon Invitational.
The tournament was held at the par 72 Old North State Club in New London, N.C.
The tournament was shortened to one round due to rain, leaving first round leader Presbyterian as the champions.
As a team, the Blue Hose shot a 313 in the tournament’s only round.
Holbrook and teammate Jessica Parris finished in a tie for third place with two others after shooting a 76.
Presbyterian’s best finish had previously been a fourth place finish at the 2006 Newberry Invitational.
In Holbrook’s first college match, held Sept. 8-9, in Draper, Va., she finished with a 76 and 78.
It was impressive, as the freshman finished 23 out of 85 Division I golfers from 15 different colleges.
This past weekend, Presbyterian traveled to Charleston, S.C. for a tournament that ran Sunday, Sept. 28 through Tuesday, Sept. 30 at Charleston Southern University.
Results of that tournament were not available as of press time.
