The Dawson County Tigers wrestling team won their first area match of the 2020 season last week, taking down the White County Warriors with a score of 42-36.

Seven wrestlers won their individual matches on Tuesday, Dec. 1 to push Dawson County to victory: Casen Davenport (126), Isaiah Lail (132), Logan Buytendorp (138), Riley Westbrooks (145) Kincaid Schuette (180), Colton Schuette (195) and Reece Ochu (220).

Several teams dropped out of a tournament that the Tigers were scheduled to participate in on Saturday, Dec. 5 at North Oconee High School. Instead of winners and losers being awarded, the remaining teams paired up with others in similar weight classes for scrimmage matches.

“All of our guys wrestled tough regardless of wins and losses and I feel like we were better for having been there, regardless of the format,” Tigers head coach Arron Haynes said after Saturday’s match.

Haynes added with football season-ending, football players will join the wrestling team to fill out their roster.

The Tigers’ next match is on Tues., Dec. 7 against Forsyth Central High School and Chestatee High School, who will host the match.
