The Dawson County Tigers wrestling tournament hosted the Amicalola Duels tournament at the Ford Phillips Center on Saturday, Jan. 9, in preparation for area duels the next weekend.
Eight teams attended the weekend tournament. West Forsyth High School from Cumming brought two different teams to compete. St. Pius X Catholic High School from Atlanta, Sonoraville High School from Calhoun, Creekview High School from Canton, Carrollton High School and Calhoun High School all competed in the Amicalola Duels. Each team wrestled two matches, paused for a 30-minute lunch break, and then wrestled two more matches.
The Tigers competed against West Forsyth, Creekview, Calhoun and St. Pius X Catholic. Despite the team not winning any of their matches, three wrestlers went undefeated on Saturday.


Logan Buytendorp, Kincaid Schuette and Will Whalen each only wrestled in two matches, but won every attempt. Buytendorp and Schuette both wrestled against Creekview and St. Pius X Cathloic. Whalen won the only individual match for the Tigers against West Forsyth and also won against St. Pius X Catholic.
Bradley Newton won the most individual matches for the Tigers with three, losing his last match of the day against St. Pius X Catholic. Isaiah Lail, Colton Schuette and Alex Stewart all won individual matches against Calhoun and Scotty Warner won against Calhoun and St. Pius X Catholic.
The Tigers will practice this week to compete in area duels at Gilmer High School on Friday, Jan. 15.
