Walters named first team all area
Davenport is honorable mention

Sophomore track sensation Madalyn Walters was named first team All-Area by the Gainesville Times last week.

  

Walters finished second in the region and fourth in state running the 3200 meters. She also placed third in region in the 1600 meters for Coach Arron Haynes’ Lady Tiger track team.

  

Walters set the school record in the 3200 meters with a time of 11:53.

  

She also holds the school record in the 1600 meters.

  

Joining Walters on the first team are: Erika Rucker, Rajeanna Jarrett, Katherine Randolph and Kiara Woods (all of Flowery Branch), Maya Dillard (Buford), Shelbee Carter (Gainesville), Sa’quavia Varnum (Commerce), LeNiesha Kearse (West Hall) and Kasey McDonald (Jefferson).

  

Erika Rucker was named female track athlete of the year.

  

On the boys’ side for Dawson County, Rush Davenport was named to the honorable mention team.

  

Davenport represented the Tigers at the AA state meet in Jefferson. Davenport competed in the 400 meters, where he set the school record. Davenport finished sixth in his heat during the state meet.
