Two Tiger golfers played in the State Class AAA championships last week.

Both golfers had to overcome wet conditions on their respective golf courses after torrential rain on May 19.

Sophomore Madison Caldwell finished the 18-hole course at Chateau Elan in Braselton in fifth place and a score of 81. Caldwell was only two shots behind fourth place finisher Gracie Henderson from Blessed Trinity.

Forty-nine golfers were entered in the individual event.

Winning the state individual championship was Hannah Berger of Elbert County, who shot a 73.

Taking the girls team title was North Oconee with a team score of 245. Runner-up was Woodward Academy with a score of 270.

For the boy's, senior Levi Samples had a tough day on the course at the very difficult Reunion County Club course in Hoschton. Samples shot an 18-hole total of 91 to finish in the middle of the pack.

Brooks Thomas from Ringgold was the low medalist with a score of 72. Thomas won a playoff with David Mackey of North Oconee, and Patrick Strickland from Callaway.

Woodward Academy captured the team title with a score of 298. It was four strokes better than runner-up Blessed Trinity.

"Both golfers did their best and I am extremely proud of how they represented Dawson County High School in the state championships. It was a great way to end a senior year for Levi. Madison now knows what she has to do to win it all next year," said head coach Wes Greer.
