The Dawson County track team will send 14 individual athletes to the State Sectionals after a solid performance in the Region 7-3A championship at White County High School on Friday, April 30.
The Tigers won five different individual events, three of which were relays. Anna LeCave, Katie Gloeckner, Emily Kurtz and Lauren Kurtz won the 4x400 meter relay and set the new school record with a time of 4:16.72.
Ethan Smith competed in four events at the region championship and won all four. He was a part of the 4x400 meter and 4x800 meter teams that have gone undefeated all season, alongside Wiley Dennis, Luke Hamby and Sam Hulsey. Smith also won the 400 meter and 800 meter event individually.
Emily Kurtz and Lauren Kurtz were also a part of the 4x100 meter relay team that finished fourth, along with Emily Robinson and Jocelyn Thompson. Emily Kurtz also finished third in pole vaulting.
Gloeckner will compete in three events at sectionals as well. She qualified as a part of the 4x800 meter team with LeCave, Lizzy Knight and Jules Phillips. Gloeckner will also run in the 400 meter individually.
Dennis qualified for sectionals in the high jump and the 800 meter race. Hamby and Hulsey also both qualified individually in the 1600 meter and 3200 meter race.
Troupe Ford moves onto the 100 meter dash at sectionals after finishing in third place and Chandler Bagley qualifies for sectionals in the 300 meter hurdles.
Additionally, Emma Pelfrey qualified as a state alternate in pole vaulting.
The state sectional tournament will be held at Lakewood Stadium in Atlanta on Saturday, May 8.
