Dawson County traveled to City Park in Gainesville (6-1) last Tuesday to face a strong Red Elephant team.

The Tigers came up on the short end of a 4-1 defeat. Dawson rebounded on Friday to defeat Area foe, Rabun County, 3-0.

Head Coach Jed Lacey’s team is currently 4-3 on the season.

Defense highlighted the first half against Gainesville. The only score came when Red Elephant Russ Puckett hit a shot by Tiger goalie Dane Trosterud at the 21:13 mark.

Going in at halftime Dawson trailed 1-0.

Gainesville turned up the offensive onslaught in the second half. Despite several fine saves by Trosterud it wasn’t enough.

The Tigers tied the score at 1-1 with a penalty kick by Alex Cote. The PK was set up by a penalty on Tiger Mauricio Escobar.

The Red Elephants scored goals by Charlie Bryant at 31:30 off a corner kick by Puckett making it 2-1. Gainesville’s Carlos Sanchez scored again at the 15:05 mark. The Red Elephants added the final goal at 5:01 by Puckett.

This weekend Dawson will travel to Jekyll Island for the prestigious Tournament of Champions soccer tournament. The event will last from Thursday until Saturday. The Tigers will face Jonesboro (5-1) on Thursday, Jackson (3-2-2) on Friday, before closing the tournament out Saturday with a game against Mt. Paran (1-5-1).
