The Tigers golf team competed in the Region 8-AA tournament last week at The Traditions Golf Course in Braselton.

Coach Van Samples' team finished in seventh place at the April 24 event. The team tallied a score of 368.

Leading the Tigers was Clay Glover, who shot an 83 over the very tough 18-hole course.

Glover finished tied for seventh place for the individual low medalist.

The top four scores on the team are counted toward a team's total score.

Jake Phillips shot the second highest score for Dawson County, a 92. Phillips was followed by teammates Trevor Gordon with a 93 and Levi Samples finished with a 100.

North Oconee won the region championship with a score of 322. Barely edging out second place finisher Oglethorpe County, who finished with a 327.

Both North Oconee and Oglethorpe County will advance to state play.

This year's state AA tournament will be held May 7 at Waynesboro Country Club.

North Oconee's David Mackey was the individual low medalist with a score of 73.

"I thought we had a good season," Samples said. "We only have one senior on the boys' team. We had a couple of freshmen boys who qualified for the majority of the varsity matches this year and they performed well. Overall I was happy with the progress we made this season."
