Team competes in Class AAA finals

The Dawson County High School Lady Tigers' track team competed at the Girls State Class AAA Championship last week in Albany. The event is run at Hugh Mills Stadium.

Dawson County had a respectable showing with Savannah Haberkam leading the way in the discus and shot put.

Haberkam took a fifth place finish in the discus with a throw of 102'7." Amani Taylor from Cedar Grove won the event with a toss of 116"9."

In the shot put Haberkam finished in seventh place with a throw of 35"1.25."

East Jackson's Jhalexius Chandler captured the state championship with a throw of 39'2.25."

Bailey Cotter was added as an alternate late in the week and came away with a 12th place finish in the 1,600-meters.

Cotter ran a time of 6:00.57.

Sue Anne Moralis from East Jackson won the 1,600-meters with a time of 5:12.57.

In qualifying events, Cotter was only one second off the school record in the 800-meters with a time of 2:33.93, good for 12th place, but not a spot in the finals.

Only the top eight times qualified for the final race.

Katelynn Simpson competed in the 300-meter low hurdles and finished in 14th place with a time of 52 seconds.

Dawson County finished in 20th place as a team with six points.

Blessed Trinity took the team title with 37.33 points.

The Lady Tigers season is now finished.
