Spring practice begins

Kickoff is more than three months away, but preparation for the season is in full tilt at Dawson County High School.

Head Coach Jeff Lee and his assistant coaches are conducting spring practice this week, which will end with a spring game at 6 p.m. Saturday at Tiger Stadium.

The Tigers have 85 plus players that have come out to take part this spring. There are several questions that will have to be answered this season in the secondary, quarterback and wide receiver.

There are 38 freshmen out for spring practice.

"Right now we are really thin in the defensive backfield," Lee said. "We also have to replace our quarterback. Tyler (Dominy) has been a big part of our offense for the last three years. Wide receiver is another concern for us."

Lee's team finished last season with a 6-5 record and a State Class AAA playoff game against St. Pius X.

The Tigers graduated 20 seniors last season.

The line of scrimmage is a strength for Lee's team. Both sides of the ball are intact coming into the spring game.

"Our kids have worked really hard in the preseason. We have seen several players come a long way this past week. Our coaches are excited to see them play in a controlled scrimmage," Lee said.
