SOFTBALL: Eight Lady Tigers recognized on All Region 7-3A team

After the completion of the GHSA softball season in Columbus, Ga. over the weekend, Region 7-3A announced their All-Region team, with eight Lady Tigers being recognized. 

Senior Rylie Erickson and sophomore Layne Bailey both made First Team All-Region. Erickson logged a batting average of .330, the third highest on the team. Erickson also collected 29 hits, 17 runs scored and nine runs driven in. Bailey led the Lady Tigers in runs batted in (31) and runs scored (29), pitching wins (11), earned run average (4.66) and pitching strikeouts (74). 

Seniors Olivia Martinez and Annslee Kirby, alongside junior Lauren Kurtz, each made the Second Team All-Region for the Lady Tigers. Martinez led the offense in multiple categories, including doubles (9), home runs (7), slugging percentage (.584) and OPS (.942). She also recorded a .319 batting average with 27 runs batted in and 20 runs scored. 

Kirby led the team in hits with 38 and was second on the team with a .339 batting average. Additionally, she drove in 18 runs and scored 11 runs herself. Kurtz led the team by drawing 13 walks and was second in runs scored with 24. She hit safely on-base 27 times, including two triples, a team-high. 

Senior Ainsley Allen, junior Reese Moore and freshman Micah Burruss were All-Region Honorable Mentions. Allen led the team in batting average (.389) and on base percentage (.413). Moore had several clutch performances through the state playoffs, including a complete game shutout to send the Lady Tigers to the state tournament in Columbus. 

Despite only recording 77 at-bats in her freshman season, Burruss drove in 22 runs, the third highest total on the team. Additionally, Burruss recorded 23 hits and scored 12 times. 

Martinez has been recognized on the All-Region team all four years of her high school career, making the First Team in 2019 and 2020. Bailey was recognized as the 2020 Freshman of the Year.
