The Gainesville Times recently named Dawson County Tiger soccer player Alex Cote to the first team All-Area. Cote helped the Tigers to a state playoff spot this past season.

Cote was a senior midfielder for Head Coach Jed Lacey’s team. He scored 12 goals and had 24 assists, setting a new school record.

Cote also played in the GSCA All-Star game at Lassiter High School in Marietta.

He also received the A/AA student Athlete-of-the-Year by the Georgia Soccer Coaches Association at halftime of the game.

He will continue his career at North Georgia College & State University in Dahlonega.

Cote was chosen as the MVP by Lacey and his staff at the team’s annual banquet in May.

“Alex is going to be hard to replace. He is one of the top players ever to wear a Dawson County uniform. He was a natural,” Lacey said of Cote after the team’s final game.

Named to the second team All-Area were juniors Mauricio Escobar and Ethan Brown.

Escobar set a new school record with goals. The junior striker netted 17 goals this past season.

Brown is a 3-year starter on defense for Lacey. He has been named team captain every year since he was a freshman.

Receiving honorable mention recognition were junior Sam Edwards and freshman Jose Miranda for the Tigers.

Named player of the year was Gainesville’s Irving Salgado. Salgado led the Elephants to a state title this past season. The team captain scored 21 goals with 14 assists for Gainesville Head Coach Rick Howard’s team.
