The Dawson County High School junior varsity girls cross country team competed at the Region 8-AA meet at Oglethorpe County High School last Thursday.
Participants of the Oct. 28 event are not eligible for any state competition, but the race provided the young runners with some valuable experience to end their seasons, according to coaches.
Dawson County competed the race in third place overall.
The Lady Tigers scored 56 team points behind first place North Oconee with 25 points and second place Jefferson with 43 points.
Bethany Auten finished in seventh place overall with a time of 25:04 to lead all Lady Tigers runners.
Jefferson High School athlete Kaylynn Rainey captured the junior varsity individual title with a time of 21:01.
Rainey was followed by Dorie Faber from North Oconee with a time of 21:43.
Lady Tigers Christine Schmid crossed the finish line in eighth place with a time of 25:20.
Schmid was followed by teammates Sara Bywaletz in 10th place (25:27), Angelica Santillian in 14th place (27:50) and Courtney Blair in 17th place (28:38).
There were 33 runners in the event.
