JV runners finish second

The Dawson County High School junior varsity boys cross country team came in second place in last Thursday's region meet at Oglethorpe County High School.

Dawson accumulated 59 team points to come just short of team champion Jefferson, who had 50 points.

There were nine teams competing in the event.

Johnathan Sanderson ran the fastest time (19:41) for Dawson County. He crossed the finish line in fourth place.

Two additional Dawson runners also placed in the top 10.

Nathan Shelp finished in eighth place with a time of (19:58). Tigers teammate Avery Cowart also had a good showing with a 10th place finish and a time of 20:00.

Doug O'Brien and Ross Walters ran strong with times of 20:23 and 20:24 respectively to add valuable team points. O'Brien and Walters placed 19th and 20th.

There were 103 runners in the 3.1-mile event.

According to coaches, runners who competed in the junior varsity region competition do not advance to a state meet, however, the event provided a good learning experience to end the season.
